Security audits and audit readiness

A security audit is a structured, independent check of how well your security actually holds up, and companies face them for many reasons: a certification, a customer requirement, an insurer, or their own leadership wanting an honest picture. The two related needs are getting ready for an audit and undergoing one, and Heelr covers both.

Heelr connects you with professionals who prepare you for an audit so you go in with confidence, and who conduct independent security audits where you need an outside assessment. Every professional is identity-verified with validated certifications, and you agree scope and price before work begins.

What this covers

Audit readiness is the preparation work: reviewing where you stand against what the audit will examine, closing gaps, and making sure your evidence and documentation are in order. A security audit itself is the structured assessment, ideally conducted by someone independent so the result carries weight. Both connect closely to your compliance work. See GRC & Compliance and security policies.

Common questions

What is the difference between audit readiness and a security audit?

Audit readiness is preparing so that an audit goes well: finding and fixing gaps in advance. A security audit is the assessment itself. Doing readiness first means fewer surprises when the real audit happens.

Why use an independent auditor?

An assessment carries more weight when it is not your own team judging its own work. Independence is much of what makes an audit credible to customers, regulators, and insurers.

Is a security audit the same as a penetration test?

No. An audit assesses your security practices, controls, and documentation broadly. A penetration test actively attacks specific systems to find exploitable flaws. An audit often includes or recommends testing as part of the picture. See penetration testing.

How does this relate to certification?

Certification involves a formal external audit. Getting audit-ready is much of the preparation for it, and the same readiness work supports customer and insurer audits too. See GRC & Compliance.
